We all know about the big repositories of company-owned Genealogy websites, that house French & Belgian genealogical documents. They are undeniably the Goliaths of genealogy, but these companies are not free, save one. With time and commitment, you can find the same documents from the online France Department Archives, the State Archives of Belgium new Genealogy website, and other free repositories.
Did you know that French Genealogy websites, created by individuals (like myself), can help you through your journey? Each individual have worked hard to offer a wealth of online information and more for free. We find bits and pieces of information that the other mega sites might not have. This will include ‘elementary to advanced how-tos’, ‘where to find’, ‘how-to-understand’ how to read and extract the genealogical data, resources, and how to navigate through documents and French repositories websites. And much more.
Each person’s website presentation, navigation, writing style, & information will differ from mine and each other’s. And that is a good thing! These attributes make all the difference in how one can successfully find their French & Belgian ancestors with their genealogical information.
My website is designed to help ‘English language people’ who have little or no French at all. I write conversationally as if we were sitting down with a cup of hot herbal tea. Other authors of French Genealogy websites may not write in that manner; some are more direct, some are more professional, some display information in a different way and format, and some focus on helpful articles.
But we all share the same purpose; to help others with their French ancestry research….for free.
Find the site that works for you.
Do you have a free French Genealogy informational website to help others on their ancestral journey? Please send me your name, the website’s name, and your website’s link here. After review, I’ll post it.
