We cried “Where can we find French birth, baptism, marriage, death, military and census records?” And then it was so. The France Department Archives genealogical records were digitalized and went online. And it is free.

This is a French Genealogy miracle for those researching their French ancestors from afar. Parish, civil, military and census records were digitized and uploaded. Depending on the department, you can find additional information.

This is a alphabetical list of each online continental France departmental archives and the church and state vital records you that are available. Have you come across a department whose links keep timing out?

The answer is hackers. The IPs of certain departments need to have a French geographical IP. You can access those department’s records though a VPN service that bypasses geo-restrictions and censorship. I have Bitdefender which offers ironclad security. There are other fast paid VPN services to choose from. My webhost, NameCheap, offers a promo of $0.99 a month. Or you can choose the free versions of VPN programs with limited features. Avira offers free 500 mb a month. Check carefully.
