How To Navigate Through…..Tutorials

It wasn’t long before I realized that moving though censuses, military sites and archives needed their own ‘How-To’ ‘tutorials. Most of the departmental archives of France follow the same pattern, though each department might have a different type of viewer. But the symbols are the same, which I believe are the heart of navigating the viewer. .

Post Revolutionary Censuses of the provinces of Namur & Hainaut, located in the Wallonia region of Belgium seemed, to me at least, the more difficult to understand and navigate through their repositories. You can find towns censuses under the population section. Not all the towns have the population records available. To find the ones that are available here for the Province of Hainaut and for Namur Province here.

I must say, I was overwhelmed by the magnitude of the ‘Memoire des Hommes‘ website, and the level of difficulty to navigate through, seemingly, out of reach for those of us who are English-language only. I was also clueless of how the French military operated. Is this you too?
